lowered expectations

so, here are a few charts that show about what healthy body fat is:

"why measure body fat?"

"body fat chart"

"body fat calculations"

interestingly, i had been shooting for 20% body fat, which is actually in the "athletic" range of things apparently. this is what both of my previous personal trainers had had me work towards. apparently i don't even need to reach that to be considered very low fat. yay for lowered expectations! lol

pumpin some iron

made it to the gym last night. probably should have gone to kickball instead but my heart just really wasn't in it. i would have done poorly and b would have gotten on my case again.

being wednesday, it was circuit training night. i picked the basic push/pull combos for both upper and lower body, and picked a floor ab exercise to go with each pair. i'd do the push machine then the pull machine then the floor exercise then a little stretching in rapid succession. i kept my heart rate up and worked up a sweat but it took a really long time. more than an hour later i had done everything except the bicep/tricep set and i was exhausted. i skipped cardio and just went home. i probably should have done SOME at least but i could barely lift my legs to walk to my car.

hopefully tonight i can make it back out to do an hour or so of cardio. i remembered my workout bag this time so i can go straight there. no excuses.

keeping a rhythm

it seems like every time i start to get back into a routine of going to the gym, something happens and i have to stop. one of us gets sick, we have to go out of town, kickball season gets in the way, we lose a car... it's annoying. b gets on my case for not going to the gym, but mostly it's not my fault. i'd like to go more often. i want to look better. i want to be in better shape. maybe when we have two cars again things will even out...

once in a blue moon

i went to the gym last night. yay!

unfortunately i got there a little late because i had to go home and grab my gym bag first (forgot to take it to work with me) and all the machines were full except one treadmill which is a little broken. half the buttons don't work so instead of doing the half hour of random incline that i was hoping for, i got 25 minutes plus 2 minutes cool down of "quick start" aka "manual". i have no idea what intensity level it was at because the <3 rate MOnitors were broken too. yargh.

when i finished with that there was a cross trainer (elliptical + arms) available but because i haven't really done cardio in for freaking ever my <3 rate jumped up to 160 and stayed there. i slowed to barely MOving and still my <3 rate wouldn't come down, so after about 10 minutes i gave up, walked around the gym until my <3 rate came down, stretched out and went home. those machines tend to do that to me, though. much MOre than the regular elliptical. maybe that means i should do them MOre, so they don't do that anyMOre. *shrug*

the only thing that hurts today is my right hip, which i expected. my right hip has given me trouble for the past couple years. i get shooting pains playing outfield and it pops when i walk. i should probably have it looked at.
