productive days
we were supposed to have guests over the weekend, but they ended up coming into town on saturday afternoon then leaving in the evening and not staying with us. i was pretty bummed because i had torn apart my sewing room so they could use the futon.
friday night i had the urge to start tearing apart a pair of jeans i am intending to use as a pattern for a new pair (they're so threadbare i really shouldn't ever wear them again, lest a seam bursts mid-stride), but then i realized i needed to wash them first, to make sure they were shrunk down to the correct size (they're stretchy denim and after about 5 minutes are suddenly too big), but i couldn't get to the dryer because the boxes from my sewing room were piled in front of the utility room door.
i thought maybe i could start cutting out something else in the mean time but i couldn't get to any of my tools, patterns, or fabric. i was all fidgety with nothing to do.
then we were supposed to have kickball on sunday, but it ended up getting rained out, so i spent the day putting my sewing room back in order and in the process emptied out/combined two more boxes of stuff and set aside a bunch of stuff for goodwill including nearly half a box of unicorn things that i don't need/want and a few penny banks that i've been holding on to for way too long. i set out a few more of my unicorn things on the windowsills and pulled out a throw pillow and tapestry to decorate the room.
once we've got some more expendable income, i'd like to get some shelves for the wall over my sewing desk so i can pull out a few of my nicer statues and crystal pieces. i think a little round shelf for the corner behind the door might be good too. the room is super small (the futon couch takes up an entire wall, and my sewing table takes up most of another, while the door and the closet fill a third), so i'm trying to optimize non-floor space. somehow i also need to make room for a dresser and i just have no idea how that's going to work right now. ugh.
so after i got my room back in order, i ran over to joann's to exchange some patterns i had accidentally grabbed in the wrong size, and pick up another pattern box. they are $4 and there was an in-store coupon for 40% off one item, so it was $1.60 off. score! i tossed in a spool of heavy-duty thread for those jeans, if i ever get around to making them, and the whole thing, including tax, was less than $5.
by the time i got home it was after 4 pm and i was bored but didn't want to start anything huge that i would need to "finish", so i figured i'd try out that blouse pattern i mentioned earlier. from cutting out the pieces to trying it on was about 4 hours. i didn't hem it, but since it was after 8 pm i didn't really have the energy at that point. i figured what i'd done was the hard part and would be good enough to know if i could pull off the pattern, which it looks like i can. success!
at that point, not feeling like i'd yet done enough with my day, i went out to the store, made a money order for bryan's shop rent, ran out to the shop and dropped off said money order, then ran back to the store for the cookie dough that bryan had sent me a text requesting as soon as i had driven out of the parking lot of the store the first time.
got home, decided it was too late to make cookies (i really don't need to be eating cookies at 10 pm, which is what time it would be when they were finally finished), but agreed to make them for monday night dessert.
all-in-all, i think i got an awful lot done yesterday.
