brown pants
i finally got around to starting those brown pants yesterday. it always seems that when i start these projects i'm about two hours too late to finish them. all i have left to do is put the button on the waistband and hem the legs and they will be done.
i lined the pockets in that awful satin again (since i had it lying around), and top stitched the waistband and pockets in purple accent thread. i also ran bias tape over all the exposed edges on the inside, so nothing frays.
this time, unlike the last two pairs, i put in an actual zipper. it was intimidating and complicated but i think i got it right.
i'll do a little work on it this morning before kickball, and probably more after kickball as well. tomorrow is a holiday so i don't have to go to work but we have guests coming to town on tuesday so i have to spend tomorrow cleaning the house while bryan does more work on his car (steering rack maybe?) which leaves me little time to work on these pants. i'm going to need to finish them today if i hope to wear them to work on tuesday.
i made these in a size 12 this time, instead of the 14 i used last time. they certainly fit better but i think i could have gotten away with making them in a 10. we'll see how i feel after i have worn them a while.
also, i had purchased 3 yards to make these pants, knowing it was going to be more than i needed. i purchased another 3 yards to make the dress, again knowing it would be more than i needed. i washed both pieces of fabric so they would be pre-shrunk, and was still able to get everything i needed for both the dress AND the pants out of just one of the 3-yard pieces. that means i have another 3-yard piece left, with which to make a pencil skirt and maybe even some work shorts. next thing you know i'll have a whole wardrobe out of this stuff. :D
