mastering the 1-handed shot

i have no idea who this guy is, but i have to give him credit for being able to take a really great picture of himself with the camera in his hand. when i try, my face always comes out distorted and pointy in all sorts of weird ways. he almost looks like someone else is actually taking the picture, and i'd think someone was, if not for the way his arm is pointing to the corner of every shot, and you can see the reflection in his glasses of him holding the camera.

maybe i just need longer arms.

something i learned

it's really tough being both photographer and model, especially when you don't have the right tools. working with a small, cheap camera with no remote and no stand, i'm lucky if i get a good picture at all. ever. yargh. i got a really cute one just now where my body looked great, but there was this horrible glare right next to my arm, and my head was at this really unflattering angle.

not lost but found

with my new haircut if i don't blow dry and curl it in the morning it does all sorts of weird things. sometimes it comes out ok, other times it starts sticking all different directions. the back portion starts curling every which way. i've tried to curl it under when blow drying it, but with the large flat brush that i had with my long hair, it doesn't work well, so i put a round brush on my shopping list.

it's a red bull morning

if i had another dollar, it'd be a two red bull morning. i fully expect to skip my lunch break to take a nap instead this afternoon.

buzzing

something in my office has started buzzing/rattling/vibrating. i think it's in the ceiling, or possibly the wall. i thought it was my speakers spazzing out, but i turned them off and the sound continued. i thought then that it might be the new light bulbs, or something involving the light fixture as a result of the work they were doing the other day, but the sound persists even with everything turned off. it's really starting to freak me out.

smarter anyway

got smarter today and wore long pants and two shirts. the last two days i've been wearing shorts and short sleeve shirts to work. i'm still freezing, but less so and at least with the long pants nobody can see my goosebumps.

why do people keep searching flickr for wedgie? i'm not sure whether to congratulate eric or feel sorry for him that people keep finding and looking at pictures of him when looking for those things, since all of his pictures are tagged with "wedgie man".

tip for working with me

if you send me something on the 8th which has a deadline of the 11th and get a reply that i won't be back in the office until the 10th, but you can contact my co-worker for urgent or time-sensitive requests, why would you wait until the 15th to make sure i got it? would you not just go ahead and send it to said co-worker? have you ever been on vacation for more than a day? do you really think that your stuff is #1 priority for me to get to as soon as i return from my week long vacation? sure, i should have gotten to it before the 15th. but considering the 12th and the 13th were weekend days, the soonest i could have gotten to it would be the 11th, at which point it's still pretty much too late for everything you've already sent me.

use your brain next time. stupidity on your part does not constitute panic on my part.

it's not the iron

it may be partly the iron, but it's mostly the whole "not sleeping" thing which is causing me to be sleepy at work all day, and nearly unable to drive home at night.

and it's the a/c which is causing me to wear two sweaters and a quilt, in addition to having the heater on under my desk, in the middle of july.

songs i sang at karaoke last night:

paramore - that's what you get
(this was not good. paramore is too high for me to sing with any power. i come out nasal and whiny and it's just bad.)

paula cole - where have all the cowboys gone
(this was better than the first song by far. i actually knew how this one went, it's in my range, and it's got some fun volume changes that don't require me to shout and lose vocal control. unfortunately, a large part of the song is simultaneously sung and spoken by two different voices, but the karaoke track didn't have either one, so i wasn't sure which part to do. i mostly did the spoken part.)

billie myers - kiss the rain
(my best of the night. well within my range which allowed me to be soft at times and loud at other times, without losing control. actually had to physically move the mic away at one point because the KJ had stepped away from the booth and i was getting too loud. definitely a keeper.)
