as the world turns

erik is getting married this summer to the girl he's been dating since our jr year in hs.

last night i found out that mike and his wife are having their first baby, a boy, probably two or three weeks later.

last night i found out that my grandfather has been in and out of the hospital over the last couple months, going back in a couple days ago, and this time they don't think he's coming home.

today i found out that emily's nearly significant other (they had dated, and i think were engaged, but never got married and had remained close friends) recently passed away.

today i found out that jeff hardy was suspended for drug abuse, as he was poised to win a world championship shot.

today i found out that one of my co-workers who i never thought even dated will be getting married next spring to a woman he's been dating about a year.

you make me sick

i've been trying to take more iron lately. i had stopped for a while because, frankly, i was tired of taking pills. but apparently anemia causes all sorts of fun things like ringing ears, a feeling of being cold, sleep spasms, and constant fatigue.

unfortunately, taking iron pills irritates my stomach, making me nauseous, aggravating my acid reflux, making me constipated, and just generally making me sick.

sometimes it's tough to decide which is worse.

not a day job

i may not make any profit off it, but i think i probably need to make quilts for everybody in the office here. it has been absolutely freezing in here this winter. the other day the purchasing office had to leave their double doors flung wide open, to try to bring some heat in from the hallway, because somehow the a/c had been tripped and it was about 60 degrees in their office and steadily dropping.

keeping my day job

made a quilt this weekend for my boss. nothing fancy, just straight lines and squares, but everybody seems to like it, and all my co-workers have offered to pitch in to help pay for the cost of it.

i have considered in the past making quilts for profit but it is just not practical. they cost more to make than people are willing to pay for them. even when i buy the cheap fabric in bulk, a lap sized quilt is about $50. if you're talking about a custom-built piece that perfectly reflects your personality, is commissioned, and has meaning, that's one thing. but to just make quilts to sell? people aren't willing to pay what it would cost for me to make any money out of the deal.

so i'll continue to make them as gifts, but it's not going to be a career move.

check check and double check

i managed to accomplish just about everything that was on my list for this weekend. the only thing i didn't get done was kickball practice because by the time the tournament ended, practice was over. oh well. we went home, i finished the quilt, ran out to joann's to show it off only to find that they had been closed for an hour and a half, considered going to the gym but realized they too would be closed by the time i got there, went home and just went to bed instead.

the party saturday night was great fun. we didn't get to sleep until almost 6 am sunday morning. the group of people was mostly tim's family, his new gf's family, and a bunch of friends that had all met out at the car hangouts years ago. we sat around talking about cars and life and telling dirty jokes until our sides hurt from laughing. we've decided to try to have a party once a month, with a different person/couple hosting it each month.
