screw this week

this week has dragged on in a painful an drudging sort of way. i'm ready for it to be over.

busy weekend

tonight after work i'm going to the gym, then going to home to wash fabric and cut out squares to make a quilt for my boss who's birthday was yesterday. she's out of town all of this week, returning on monday, so my co-worker and i thought it would be nice to make her a quilt since it's always so cold back where she is.

tomorrow morning i'm hoping to get up and go to the gym again for a little bit, then come home and sew the front squares together, then tomorrow night we're going to that party at tim's.

sunday i'm hoping to spend some time putting the front and back together, but then at 1 we've got that bowling tournament, then kickball practice immediately after for a couple hours. if i didn't finish it in the morning, i'll spend sunday night finishing off the quilt so i can bring it to work monday.

my back is going to hate me, and i'll be all sorts of sore by monday morning, but it'll be worth it.

speaking the same language

i just want a chin-length bob. is that so much to ask? how does that seem to translate so often into shoulder-length with lots of feathery layers?

bowling for charity

the city i work for has a sister city down in brasil. i'm not entirely sure what all that means, except we apparently send them a lot of stuff. students in the schools here do book drives so the kids in the sister city can learn how to read english. we did a fundraiser where we sold bags of coffee. and for the last couple years, we've had bowling tournaments to raise money to send for training teachers and buying books and stuff.

i signed bryan up for this year's tournament. it's a charity tournament, not an actual league with actual trained bowlers, so while he may not win, i do think he'll be one of the better bowlers there.

i'm not bowling because i am... really bad. i've actually had gameS (yes, plural) where my final score was 30 or less. so i'll be there to watch and cheer.

neither quantity nor quality

bryan and i have not slept well since we moved into this house. he's been staying up until all hours, then sleeping all day. i've been falling asleep at my desk, spending large chunks of my day feeling completely unproductive. several times i've been so tired i wasn't sure it was safe for me to drive home from work.

this afternoon i took a nap at my desk during my lunch break. i'm still barely able to keep my eyes open. thankfully there is nothing going on tonight that i need to stay awake for.

boredom is my enemy

the bag of sun chips on my desk is taunting me.

keep trying

i feel like i get more attention and respect at work when i really put forth the effort to look the part. lately i've been wearing more slacks (helps now that i have a couple more pairs that fit), heels, and blouses, but the part i just can't seem to get down is the make-up. i wore some the other day for our mayor's youth day thing, because i wanted these students to think i was professional or something, and not just some ragamuffin who happens to work for the city. all grown women wear make-up, right? i ought to fit in...

but instead i just felt cheap and trashy. i felt like it was completely not me. i can do the eyeliner and mascara thing without any trouble. but when it comes to foundation, blush, and eyeshadow, i feel like i just look like i'm really trying to hard. we won't even discuss the horrors of lipstick.

so i did it for two days, and i got lots of compliments from my (female) co-workers, who were all very supportive and said i looked very pretty, but this morning i got up, washed my face, and just looked at myself in the mirror. i like my freckles. i don't always have the most perfect complexion (especially right now. having a pretty bad break-out, combined with some pretty serious dry skin) but at least i look like me, not some plastic, fake version of me.

hey, you asked...

scene in guild wars last night:

me: *picking up a large seed*
autumn: so where do we take this?
me: to the place where we put it down.
autumn: thanks, smartass.
me: hey, you asked...

some time later, after we have carried this large seed through the forest quite some distance...

me: and this is the place where we put it down.
me: how exactly would i have described that to you?
autumn: yeah, ok. good point.

really too bad

it's too bad i have such ugly thighs, because i have pretty nice calves, if i do say so myself.

i should wear more knee-length skirts.

working through the pain

tonight i will be going back to the gym for more cardio, and probably upper body weights, since nothing from my waist down wants to work today. i should work on my throwing muscles anyway.

abuse

we had kickball practice yesterday, for the second time this season. i've been going to the gym for the last two weeks, but my body just wasn't ready for this yet.

bryan made us practice sprinting, then bunting, then kicking, with a good dose of fielding between and during each of those activities.

every part of my body is sore.
