over before its started

this weekend i started working on a quilt for bryan's mom, because i'm nice like that. i figured i'd just get an early jump on christmas and have it done and ready to go. or maybe as a christmas present or something. whatever.

anyway, i had this nice quilting pack that i had picked out which had 5 different pieces of fabric in shades of dark green and dark purple, all with a bird theme. birds, bird nests, bird feathers, eggs... so i got all the fabric washed and ironed and showed it to bryan to get his approval, see if he thought his mom would like it ok, and he said HE liked it, and thought we should keep it for ourselves. but he wanted it to be a big, fluffy quilt. not a thin one.

unfortunately the thick batting only comes in full and queen size, and i only have enough fabric for a lap blanket. even with all of the spare fabric that i have from other things, i wouldn't have enough fabric for a full sized quilt. so i think i'm going to have to just go ahead and make this as a small one with the thin batting i had already purchased, then go buy some other fabric specifically for a full or queen sized quilt.

now that i've got that settled, the next question is design. up until now all of my quilts have either been kit quilts which are pre-designed, or plain 6" square quilts which are quick and easy and pretty boring. i think i'm ready for something just a little more creative. still not ready for pinwheels, stars, or flowers, but maybe something in a variety of rectangular shapes... squares of different sizes... maybe a set of fibonacci squares...
