what's next?

so now that i have finished my second pair of pants, i'm ready to try something new. i need to make drapes for the house, and i have a couple quilts i'd like to make for christmas. should get a jump start on those since i don't have my mom to hold my hand through it this time and i will probably have to do several parts over.

aside from that, though, what should my next article of clothing be? t-shirt? blouse? dress? skirt? coat? pj's?

nearly finished

unfortunately, bryan is still pretty sick, so when i got home last night he was sleeping, and i decided to let him stay that way. as a result, i didn't get to work on my pants until he woke up at 8 pm, which left me with only about an hour and a half to do laundry and work on my pants.

in that time i managed to put in four buttons (two functional, two decorative), two hook and eye closures, half of a third, and i marked the location for two more. i know that seems like a lot, but i forgot to make a button hole for the third button on the fly which i can't add after the fact (as i learned on the first pair i made), and instead of one button above the fly (which i did on my first pair) i'm putting in two hooks for stabilization, in addition to the two hooks at the end of the overlay flap. really, i'm only adding one extra closure device to this pair that wasn't on the previous pair.

still seems like a lot to me...

anyway, so tonight i have 3 hook/eye closures to finish, and i have to hem them, then run them through the washer and dryer. i really think i can get it all done, assuming bryan isn't asleep again when i get home. i may actually be able to wear them to work tomorrow. if not tomorrow, definitely monday. here's hoping...

suck in

as of last night all i have left to do is put on the buttons and hem the legs and the grey pants will be done. i didn't lower the waist band like i wanted because i found that because they are not stretchy like the purple ones, they are much tighter and may not even fit at all. might have to size the next pair up a smidge in order to lower the waist.

aside from that, i'm concerned that this fabric seems to be fraying a lot around the edges and i don't have a surger so i don't know how much it's going to continue to fray.

plus there are these weird spots on the fabric that looks like wet spots, or maybe grease. i'm not sure what they came from. i don't remember them being there when i bought the fabric, and i did pre-wash it before i started making the pants. i'm going to try washing them again so hopefully it will come out.

i'm still hopeful that i can make these work. i'll be working on them tonight and tomorrow night and if i can get the buttons and hems done, i should be able to wear them friday.

it was real

i received a second email today from amazon, apologizing for mistakenly sending a notice about my baby registry yesterday, meaning to send a notice about my wedding registry. except when i looked yesterday, nobody had bought anything from our wedding registry, so they're still wrong.

unfortunate

i started making that pair of pants in grey. i'm afraid the fabric may be too thin and see-through. i hope not, because i got just the right color and i really need to replace my other pair of grey pants. badly. they pinch my girly bits in all sorts of weird, uncomfortable, and completely unattractive ways.

i got the fly assembled last week, and this time i did the button holes before assembling. it's still not right, but certainly closer than my first try. the holes are just off to one side by 1/8" which isn't too bad. i got the pockets all assembled, so the fronts were done, and i figured the next thing to do would be to sew up the side seams on the pants. and if it weren't for the whole part where i intended to make them straight leg instead of wide leg, that would certainly have been the next step.

i got two emails today to different email accounts, both from amazon, and both legitimate by all evidence (as in, not spams or fake emails). both told me that something had been purchased for me from my baby registry, and that i should send the buyer a "Thank You" note.

except i don't have a baby registry. O_o

probably bad

i've got a stinging pain on the front of my left arm, about an inch left of my armpit, with residual tingly feelings down to my elbow and a dull ache throbbing up into my shoulder. odd.

how is that possible?

when i first got the electricity turned on for the house, back in july, i got a notice from the electric company saying that i could set up a budget pay plan based off the previous year's use by the previous tenant. they average out a year's worth of usage and you pay one flat rate every month rather than having some really high months and some really low months. easier for budgeting out.

anyway, they said that based on the previous tenant's usage, our monthly bill would be $80. that seemed pretty outrageously high for me, so i said no and we've been paying month-to-month. so far our highest month was august, when it was really hot, and our bill just barely broke $60. most months our bill is around $40. i just can't figure out what they were doing that could possibly have left $80 as their AVERAGE.
