murphy's day

last night bryan went out of town. i couldn't get to sleep.

this morning i overslept. hurriedly dressed and ran out the door, locking myself out.

by the time eric ran to his mom's to grab the spare key, i was 45 minutes late for work.

my new desk arrived this morning and it doesn't fit. not even kinda. the quote we were sent is exactly what we received but not at all what we had asked for. after two hours with the office depot rep, measuring and discussing, she had ordered the completely wrong stuff. in october.

yes, it took more than 3 months for our order to arrive, only so we could find out it was the completely wrong order.

so we shoved blair's old, unused desk into my new space so i could at least have a place to sit and work. shortly thereafter bryan called and said the work he was supposed to do today fell through, so he was going home. i said i really needed a hug, so he said he'd come see me, check out my new digs, and give me a hug.

on his way, blocks from my work, he got a ticket for not having an inspection sticker.

this is one of those days that i just wish i could have skipped.

p.s. i still couldn't find my milton shirt. :(

moving day, part 1

when blair heard that i was getting a new desk, she called dibs on my old one. she only had a single piece desk which left her with no work space, after her computer was put on it.

since blair is off in richmond today for a conference, and the guy is supposed to be here today to get my phone and network connections all moved around, and the furniture is going to be here tomorrow, we took today to get everything rearranged and ready for tomorrow.

3 buttons done...

i got the three buttons done on the fly last night. was going to do the fourth, but bryan is sick and went to bed after i had stitched the first 3 holes, while i was hand-sewing the buttons on, and i didn't want to wake him by running the sewing machine to make the 4th hole. i guess i'll do that one tonight.

i've also decided that instead of putting actual functioning buttons on the end of the waistband flap, i'm going to sew them on as decoration and put two hook/eye closures on the back instead. too many buttons already. going to the bathroom is going to be an endeavor.

also was going to have bryan help me measure to hem, but realized i could just measure any of my current pairs of pants to figure out where the hem should be, since they are all already the length i want.

you got off the hook this time, honey... :)

get out.

i found out yesterday that on friday my new office furniture is arriving (yes, the stuff we ordered several months ago when i first was told they were uprooting me) so today i get to start packing up my stuff and tomorrow we're going to start ripping the stuff out of what will soon be my new office so we can fit my desk in there when it arrives on friday.

they have moved me 3 times in as many years. think on friday i'm going to wear my "office space" shirt and spend the day shuffling around, mumbling about my stapler.

note to self:

when eating red soup, while wearing a white shirt, consider a bib.

really unfortunate

it's terribly unfortunate that Burda patterns come with incomprehensible instructions (it's a german company) and a sizing scheme that makes absolutely no sense to me because they have some incredibly cute stuff that i would totally wear if i didn't have to have an interpreter to make, or lose 20 pounds just to wear.

not to be outsmarted

i got the waist band put together last night, so all i have left to do is put on the buttons and hem them. sounds easy enough, right?

have you ever tried putting in buttons?

bonus

my quarterly check from one of my side jobs came in last week. it's not a whole lot (i'm cheap), but it should be enough to buy new bedroom doors. w00t! i'm so excited to finally have doors... that aren't broken or smashed or rotting or swollen or grossly discolored or smelly...

pants

because of bryan being sick this weekend, i didn't want to do anything that would wake him. that meant no pre-washing my fabric, and no running the sewing machine. consequently i didn't even get to start working on my pants until 3 pm saturday, but i worked until 11 pm when my back finally screamed at me loud enough that i took some aleve and called it a night.

by that point i had a nearly completed pair of pants. all that was left was to finish ironing and seaming the inner portion of the waistband, put on some buttons, and hem them. they were otherwise done.

unfortunately bryan didn't wake up until 3 pm sunday afternoon, at which point i had to drive his mom over to the shop to drop off her car because bryan was too sick to drive. after stopping to grab dinner, i didn't get back home until after 6 pm. by that point i had lost any interest in working on them, so we played Rock Band for a couple hours and i went to bed, pants still unfinished.

i'm hoping to get them finished in time to wear to work on friday. i really think i can get it done, it's just a matter of having the energy to do it after work, after being up all day running on 4 hours of sleep. ugh. yay for double sized red bulls...

holly carp!

bryan and i have been playing more Rock Band together and we've come to an impass, in the form of Aerosmith. specifically their cover of "Train Kept a Rollin'".

for the most part bryan has been doing guitars, and doing very well at it. i've been doing drums and doing passably. but this song is just kicking our collective butts. between the insane guitar work at the beginning and the recockulous drum work in the middle (hello 1/16th notes!) we've not made it further than 53%. we couldn't even get through practice mode.

of course, we did find it listed in the "Impossible" set of songs... so that may have something to do with it...

poor bryan

i was sick a couple weeks ago, when we first got back from oregon. it's pretty uncharacteristic of me, as i'm usually very healthy. but since we moved into this house, i've been getting sick much more often. we both have been generally unwell since moving in, but twice now i've actually been sick enough to warrant time off from work.

while it did make me generally congested and sneezy and all that, that's about as bad as it got for me. but it seems now i have passed it on to bryan, about 4x worse. he says it wasn't from me, but probably something he caught from someone else, which i suppose is possible. there was that new year's party where he was sharing drinks with all sorts of other people, some of which we already knew were sick...
