then bryan and i flew out to oregon on december 15th to spend christmas with my family. it's the first time i've had christmas with them since 2002, and it's bryan's first ever christmas away from his family. we both had a good time, i think. bryan got to get some work done on his car, since the guy that was supposed to be working on his exhaust hadn't touched it since bryan left oregon back in august. my mom and i spent the better part of a day helping my brother move out of an apartment and into a duplex. i made a quilt. bryan and my brother ran network cable in my parents' house. but it was also a whole week where nothing got done on the house.

we flew back on christmas day. we were supposed to get in and go straight to bryan's mom's house to do christmas, but she hadn't wrapped our presents so she didn't want to do christmas. she said we could come over and eat, since she still had all the food from when they had done christmas with her sister and bryan's brother earlier in the day, but we couldn't call it christmas because she wouldn't give us our presents because they weren't wrapped. O_o we ended up just going home to unpack and relax.

so now we're back and supposed to have that second inspection any day now. but i emailed bryan's mom the other day and asked to whom i should give rent this month, because i had heard some vague mention of her trying to break her contract with the management company, which would mean we were renting directly from her, but i hadn't heard anything from either her or the management company beyond that. no paperwork saying our lease was over, nothing from her about a new lease contract, no phone calls, no letters, nothing. she wrote me back saying that her contract with the management company has been terminated and we should give her the money directly from now on out. after that i called the city and explained that now we're renting directly from family, and besides that we got done all the major things on their list. they said that in that case, no. we don't need a second inspection.

well, in that case, i'm going to sleep!

since we are no longer under a deadline to get stuff done, i will be working on the house on the weekends and spending the week nights doing other things like watching tv with my husband, playing video games with my sister, and sleeping. see, while i do still have a huge list of things to finish, they were all cosmetic things. we got done everything that was actually required for the inspection. we still have to finish painting and refinishing the cabinets and hanging doors, but we can do that at our pace now. so yay.
