the nut house :: more than you ever wanted to know about me

sometimes it seems like just as i'm making progress and getting the place cleaned up, more messes are made. no sooner had i gotten the mold cleaned up than the termite guy came in, leaving concrete dust. no sooner did i get the concrete dust cleaned up than the construction guys came in, leaving construction dust. no sooner did i get the construction dust cleaned up than eric and jody came in to tear out the bathroom floor, level the living room floor, and remove the old shelves in the utility room, leaving all sorts of nastiness.

but this is good. this is progress. the carpet padding is installed in the three bedrooms, the first round of leveling compound has been poured in the areas getting wood floor, the bathroom is ready to have the toilet and tub ripped out and replaced, and as soon as we get the go-ahead, the "walls" in the utility room are ready to be ripped out and replaced by one single real wall.

bryan's mom spent the weekend cleaning the vent/fan for the stove and it looks worlds better. when she first started i was afraid to turn it on, because i thought it might catch on fire or something. it was just covered in black grease and layers of paint and goodness only knows what else. now you can actually tell that it's made of metal. w00t! she's still working on cleaning the many layers of paint off of the grill, but she's made a world of difference on the rest of it.

she also disassembled the toilet to figure out why it was leaking and discovered that 1) they had replaced the basin but not the tank, and re-used the bolts, which rusted out and 2) the tank was cracked. so she decided that since the toilet was going to have to come out anyway to put the new tub in, she would just get us a whole new toilet, complete with matching toilet seat. =O yippee!!

meanwhile i think i dislocated my thumbs from painting so much. i've now primered everything except the ceilings and the window sills in the three bedrooms, and everything from the top of the doors down to the floors in the hallway. i was hoping to get the ceilings done this weekend but after dripping paint onto my eyeball about five minutes into the day on saturday i decided to hold off until i could find some safety glasses or goggles or something.

saturday morning the cable guy came to figure out why i had no internet connection. after much fiddling around outside, climbing up the pole in front of the house, and making trips back and forth to his van, he finally told me that it was a problem with our connectors and it should work now, which it did. yay for teh interwebs!
