another boring update
the real estate agent finally got someone over yesterday to look at the termites. he said he could take care of it, gave her a quote, and said he could get to it in a week or two. the quote was apparently in the range of money that bryan's mom considered "outrageous", and she vowed to find someone who could do it for less, and sooner.
meanwhile we can't really do any "construction" type work until that's all taken care of, so i've decided to do prep work instead. tonight i'll be washing floors, and hopefully sterilizing them, now that we've got the hot water turned on. if all goes well, this weekend i'd like to get over to the store with bryan's mom to pick up the new a/c unit, so i can do work in the house without dying of heat exhaustion.
dying of heat exhaustion = teh suck
then if all of that goes as planned, i'm hoping to get the first 5 gallon bucket of Kilz and finding some way to get a ladder over to the house, so i can start prepping the walls.
yay for latex interior paint and smokers. :P

tight schedule
last week the electricity was turned on. two days ago the water was turned on. yesterday the gas. tomorrow the cable. today the real estate agent is supposed to go over with the guy from the pest control place to get a quote on taking care of the termites, then hopefully they'll get on that asap. then bryan's mom has a guy that will come in and fix the woodwork around the bottoms of the walls. hopefully eric will have time next week to lay the new floors. if we can get all of our stuff out of the storage unit and into the house next weekend, we won't have to pay for another month of storage. probably we'll just move it all in there, then focus on getting the last minute things taken care of, like the new countertop, and fixing the door hinges on the cupboards.
i can't describe to you how bad it smells in there... cigarette smoke, mold, mildew, rot, bugs, animal pee... i can't wait till all those floors are cleaned and sanitized and everything is repainted. even then i'm going to be putting air fresheners in every room. and fans. and dehumidifiers.

calm and serene vs cold and sanitary
bryan has made the mistake of leaving the painting up to me. i get to pick the colors, i get to decide where they go, and i get to do (or ask other people to do) all the painting while bryan is out of town.
let's hope i don't completely screw this up.

that much closer
the electricity was turned on last week. the water will be turned on today. the gas will be turned on tomorrow. the cable will be turned on on friday.
i don't know when the termite people will be there, but as soon as they are done doing what they have to do, we can install the floors. once the floors are in i can have a big ol' moving party to get all of our stuff into the house. then i get to paint my little heart out.
let's just hope the termite people don't take their dear sweet time and we can get all of this done in two weeks.
i'm not holding my breath.

had to be up very very early this morning to take bryan to the airport. bryan set his alarm for 2:50 so he could get up, shower, shave, get dressed, and finish packing in time for us to be out the door at 3:30 so we could drive to newport news for his 5:30 flight.

right here waiting
bryan left at the crack of dawn this morning for california. i'll see him in two weeks when i fly out to portland for a couple days, but then he's staying there for a couple more weeks and i'm coming back here to do more moving. :( i'm going to miss him like crazy and hope that everything goes smoothly for him out there. i've been praying for the last couple weeks that everything goes according to plan, that nothing major goes wrong, that he is able to get done everything he needs to get done and doesn't have to go back down to finish the job later.
God give him the strength, the patience and the knowledge to do what he has to do. give him peace when he is frustrated and show him what he's missing when things aren't working properly. keep him safe for me, put your hand under his plane, and take care of my love.
