new roommate
last week it was announced that we would be getting an intern. i knew this would be a possibility, i just never thought it would really happen. or that they would somehow find a better place to put them than at the desk in my tiny little cubicle space which had been reserved for just such an occurance.

speed vision
i had a dream last night that bryan and i went to the drag strip to do some bracket racing. he was in a non-turbo, and the guy wrote 13.0 on bryan's window, indicating that he thought bryan's car would run a 13 second quarter mile. bryan gave the guy a look to tell him he thought the guy was a total idiot, then told the guy to write 19.99 instead. then he pointed at the car i was driving and told the guy that he should write 13.0 on that car instead, because it was much faster.

the saddest part about not having comments is my pre-programmed behavior of starting the morning by surfing to my web site, just to see if anybody commented. anybody. spammers or actual people. but now, i don't even get that to look forward to.

i suppose it doesn't matter
i may not turn comments back on at all. it's not like anybody was actually commenting on anything anyway. and those that actually have something to say can always email me. most people here do anyway. it would certainly cut back on the hassle of trying to block spam. but at the same time, it makes me a little sad to think that my visitors, the few that i actually have, can't just push a button and reply. it means that they can't see what someone else has said on the subject, sparking a conversation. not that conversations ever get sparked here anymore, but the fact that there isn't even a possibility of a conversation being sparked makes me a little sad. :( oh well. at least i won't blow up the server.

moving right along
well, it looks like i've got most everything somewhat back to normal... well, as normal as it's going to be, considering that all my old posts are now static html documents, rather than database entries. *sigh* i thought i got past this when i ditched greymatter. :(
anyway, all i have left to do is put the finishing touches on the formatting for the "authored by" tags. then i think we'll be back up and running. sans-comments, of course. still haven't worked that part out.

hold your breath
yes, i know. the site sucks right now. sorry about that. after mt killed the server last night, i decided to just wait until the morning then go to work and use the backup that i made before the upgrade to reinstall my site. except that didn't work so well. i ended up having to completely delete everything and reinstall the whole program. and of course, since i don't have any of the mt2.6 install files handy, i ended up reinstalling mt3.2, which we all know i hate. and because it decided not to import any of my old pages, even after i went through the whole "importing" thing... i now get to go through all my old pages and remove the comment box, as well as hundreds of spam posts that somehow never got caught, rebuild all the templates for all the pages, and basically start everything over from scratch. OH so much fun. :P

another exciting development: mt 3.2 has deleted all of my comments. every last one. it's a good thing i backed up the whole site before upgrading.

screw this
as soon as i get back to work tomorrow i'm going back to mt 2.6. in less than two hours i received nearly 2000 spam messages. not a single one was blocked by mt 3.2. not a single one. of nearly 2000 messages, not a single thing ended up in the junk folder.
in fact, so many messages were dumped on my account in those less than two hours, that the host locked down my account to keep it from crashing the server. FUCK YOU MT 3.2!!!

another thing i hate about mt 3.2
it doesn't even show anything of any actual content in the activity log. it shows about 20 times that i posted an entry, but it doesn't say anything about comments being posted, or blocked, or deleted, or anything like that.
this sucks!
plus, even when i do turn on the spam blocking settings to their absolute strictest, they don't do shit! not a single comment has been moved into the junk folder like i told them to be. not 1! and in the mean time, i've had several hundred comments posted! PIECE OF CRAP! I HATE YOU MT 3.2!!!

movable type 3.2 officially sucks
sure, it installed nice and pretty, with no real hiccups. but beyond that, i have to say i am sorely disappointed. i have received 3000+ spam comments in the last 5 or 6 hours. that is ridiculous! and the spam blocker seems to be utterly useless, even when i manually add things to the block list. whether i add in the single keyword, the phrase, the url, the commenter, the text... nothing is working. it is almost enough to make me want to go back to mt 2.6 just so i can have my mt-blacklist back! screw you, mt 3.2!

how is this better?
well, i just upgraded to mt 3.2, and i have to say, i already miss my mt-blacklist. :( supposedly mt 3.2 has this vastly superior spam blocker built in, but i'm getting more spam comments than i have since i installed blacklist. at this very moment, if i remove 20 spam comments, as soon as the server is done parsing the page, i've got 5 more waiting. what a pain!
